Rewired for Success: Karsyn’s Journey with Tech 4 All Tennessee
The computer refurbishing and training program created by Harriman non-profit Tech 4 All Tennessee is helping improve lives across East Tennessee.
Karsyn Davis, 30, is pursuing a degree as a Medical Administrative Assistant at TCAT (Tennessee College of Applied Technology) in Harriman. Just a couple of years ago, she was at a low point.
“I lost my job and didn’t have a car to get to work,” she said.
With limited job skills in retail and fast food, she knew she needed more training. When she heard about the opportunity to earn a free Chromebook through Tech 4 All Tennessee’s digital literacy program, she signed up. After completing the course, she connected with Executive Director Dayle Beyer, who invited her to volunteer in the Digital Lab—where donated computers are refurbished and distributed to the community.
“I learned the refurbishing process and began assisting with classes,” Davis said.
She quickly progressed from assistant to instructor, teaching both 3-hour workshops and 15-hour courses. She also gained experience managing inventory and launched a Pop-Up-Shop to resell donated items like coffee makers, helping fund the lab.
“We were able to put money back into the program,” she said.
Inspired by her growth, Karsyn began attending board meetings and enrolled at TCAT. Her training there led to several Microsoft certifications, now proudly displayed on her resume.
“Having someone to mentor me gave me the push to go to school,” she said. “It’s expanded my world.”
